Arun Sarma was an Assamese writer, known for his unconventional dramatic works. He wrote six novels, and was awarded with the Sahitya Akademi Award for his novel Ashitbodar Rong (The Hues of Blessing) in 1998. He also received the Padma Shri in 2010, the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 2003 and the Assam Valley Literary Award in 2005.

Indira Goswami, also known as Mamoni Raisom Goswami, has written fifteen novels, hundreds of short stories and several research papers. Among her major novels are Nilkanthi Broja, Ahiron, Mamore Dhara Tarowal and Tej Aru Dhulire Dhusarita Pristha. She has been honoured with several national and international awards for her creative writings, including the Katha Award for Creative Fiction, the Bharatiya Jnanpith Award, the Sahitya Akademi Award and the International Jury Award for the film Adarya  based on her novel Une Khowa Hawda. She is presently the Head of the Department of Modern Indian Languages and Literary Studies, University of Delhi.

James Dokhuma, one of the icons of Mizoram, worked in several capacities before joining the MNF (Mizo National Front) underground movement in the mid-sixties. He penned three novels in Mizo—Thla Hleinga Zan, Khawar In, and Rinawmin from the Guwahati District Jail. He has forty books to his credit, including eleven novels, two biographies, four plays, four history books and a dictionary of Mizo Idioms and Phrases. He has received several awards including the Padma Shri and Bhasha Samman from Sahitya Akademi.

Kynpham Sing Nongkynrih lives in Shillong, Meghalaya. He belongs to the Khasi tribe and writes in both Khasi and English. His poetry and short fiction draws on a wide range of themes. He writes with equal passion, of love, cherries, winter oranges and the ancient rocks of his land.

One of the finest writers from the North-east, Mamang Dai has collected and written many folktales from the magical story-world of Arunachal Pradesh that reflect the rich culture and landscape of the place. Dai lives in Itanagar, Arunachal Pradesh.

Shurhozelie Liezietsu is an Indian politician from the State of Nagaland.

Wairokpam Kamni Singh, a playwright from Manipur, is also an actor, poet and director. He is best known for his social plays with symbolic characters. He has won many laurels as a playwright as well as a director, both at the state and national levels including Shikayat, the Hindi adaptation of his Manipuri play, Wakat.
