Indira Goswami (1942–2011), also known as Mamoni Raisom Goswami, was a significant figure in Indian literature and a strong advocate for social justice. Writing primarily in Assamese, she authored fifteen novels and hundreds of short stories. Her notable works include Nilkanthi Broja, Ahiron, and Mamore Dhara Tarowal. Goswami was also a scholar of the Ramayana, serving as a professor at the University of Delhi, where she focussed on the Tulsidas and Madhava Kandali versions of the epic. She received numerous awards for her literary achievements, including the Jnanpith Award and the Sahitya Akademi Award, and the film Adarya, based on her novel Une Khowa Hawda, won the International Jury Award.
