A. Madhaviah (1872–1925) was a pioneering Tamil writer, novelist, and social reformer of early modern India. Writing in Tamil and English, he addressed caste oppression, women’s education, widowhood, and social inequality. His notable works include Padmavati Charitram, Muthumeenakshi, and the English novel Clarinda. Influenced by reformist thought and the Indian Renaissance, Madhaviah blended realism with moral critique, contributing significantly to the development of modern Tamil prose and socially engaged literature. His legacy remains influential in literary history and reform discourse. He passed away in 1925.
