Mitra Phukan

Mitra Phukan, a writer, classical vocalist and translator, is a recipient of the Katha Award for Translation, and has translated into English the works of many important contemporary authors of Assam, confining herself mostly to short fiction. She has authored several award winning books for Children's Book Trust, which have been translated into Asomiya, Hindi and Bangla, besides many short stories and school textbooks. A popular columnist, she contributes to The Sentinel and Homelink, premier papers of the North East, and Sruit, the journal of dance and music published from Chennai. She is currently the editor of NEWFrontiers, the annual literary journal of the North East Writers' Forum.
