Mannu Bhandari (1931–2021) began writing in 1952, the year she received her MA in Hindi from Banaras Hindu University, and soon emerged as a leading voice of the Nai Kahani Movement. With eight collections of short stories, three novels, two plays and three children’s books to her credit, she was one of the foremost writers in Hindi. She passed away in 2021.
