Jhaverchand Meghani (1896–1947), a prominent figure in Gujarati literature, was celebrated as a folklorist and pioneering researcher. He dedicated his life to preserving the oral traditions of the Saurashtra region. He meticulously documented “Charani” literature, folk songs, and heroic legends of outlaws and saints that were at risk of being forgotten. His seminal multi-volume work, Saurashtra Ni Rasdhar, remains the definitive collection of these vibrant tales, capturing the unique veera-ras (heroic sentiment) of Gujarati culture. Through his novels, short stories, and editorial work at the newspaper Phulchhab, Meghani did not just record history but actively shaped modern Gujarati identity by celebrating the courage and integrity of ordinary people. In recognition of his contributions, he was awarded the prestigious Ranjitram Suvarna Chandrak in 1929 for his research in folk literature and the Mahida Paritoshik for Mansai-na Diva.
