Binapani Mohanty (1936–2022) was a distinguished Odia novelist and short story writer known for her sensitive exploration of women’s lives, family relationships, and social change. Her writing blends realism with emotional depth, often focusing on inner conflicts and moral dilemmas. Notable works include Kasturi Mriga, Chandrama, and Shikara. Mohanty received major honours such as the Sahitya Akademi Award and the Sarala Award, establishing her as a significant voice in modern Odia literature. She passed away in 2022.
