Anupama Niranjana (1934–1991) was a prominent Kannada writer and medical doctor known for her socially conscious, feminist fiction and non-fiction. Writing from lived experiences, she explored women’s lives, health, and social inequality with realism and empathy. Her novel Runamuktalu was adapted into a noted film. She received the Karnataka Sahitya Akademi Award and the Soviet Land Nehru Award for her literary contributions. An award in her name now honours women writers in Kannada. She passed away in 1991.
