Anita Desai is an Indian novelist who also serves as the Emerita John E. Burchard Professor of Humanities at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. She is a recipient of the Sahitya Akademi Award for her novel Fire on the Mountain and the British Guardian Prize for The Village by the Sea. She has also been shortlisted thrice for the Booker Prize.
