Albert Bierstadt (1830–1902) was a German-born painter associated with the Hudson River School. Famous for monumental landscapes of the American West, his dramatic use of light and scale captured the Rocky Mountains and Yosemite, shaping nineteenth-century visions of wilderness and expansion. He enjoyed great fame and influence during his lifetime. He passed away in 1902.
