A painter and a versatile artist, Abanindranath Tagore was no less known for his magic pen when it came to children. Nephew of Rabindranath Tagore, he was born on August 7, 1871 and was regarded as the first Indian artist who won international recognition for his paintings. Though he learnt the subtle techniques of water colour, pastel, oil painting and portraits, the sensitive artiste in him was not satisfied with these conventional European norms o painting. So, he forged an eclectic style by combining western technique with indegineous folk style and took on the task of reviving the lost school of exquisite Indian art.
