He is a social historian who teaches at Madras Institute of Development Studies, Chennai. He has written, edited, translated widely in Tamil and English. He has recently published a chronological variorum edition of the complete short stories of Pudumaippittan. He is also the translator of Sundara Ramaswamy's widely acclaimed work, JJ: Some Jottings.
