Ambai

C S Lakshmi is a prolific feminist writer who writes under the pseudonym, Ambai'. Her writings take up the cause of women emancipation and explores the themes of the female body and sexuality. She is a recipient of Narayanaswamy Aiyar Prize for her fiction. Many of her stories have been translated into English. The Library of Congress holds five of her writings in its collection.

Bibhutibhushan Bandopadhyay

Bibhutibhushan Bandopadhyay was a writer and editor of considerable repute. His novels reflected life in rural Bengal, and the coexistence of man and nature in complete harmony. He was also an erudite scholar of Sanskrit, earning him the title of 'Shastri'. He was the editor of Dipak and Chitralekha, a magazine on cinema. He was awarded the Rabindra Prize in 1951, posthumously.

Geeta Dharmarajan loves writing for children. She received the Padma Shri in 2012 for her work in literature and education. She was also the joint winner of the Business Standard Award for Social Entrepreneur of the Year in 2018.

Jayant Kaikini

A writer of short stories, film scripts and poetry, Jayant Kaikini is regarded as one of the most significant voices in Kannada literature today. He worked as a chemist before becoming a full-time writer. Apart from Kannada, Jayant is fluent in Konkani (his mother tongue), Marathi, Hindi and English.

Prasenjit Ranjan Gupta

Prasenjit Gupta is a graduate from IIM Calcutta. He turned from working with Management Information Systems to writing short fiction, and is a graduate from Iowa Writers' Workshop. As a student of comparative literature at the University of Iowa, he was a member of the editorial staff of 100 Words. His stories and translations have appeared in journals in India and abroad.

Ram Swaroop Kisan

Ram Swaroop Kisan writes in both Rajasthani and Hindi. His poems have been translated into Hindi and other languages. His collection of poems and stories in Hindi are Gaon ki Gali-Gali, and Bapu and Other Stories, respectively. Many of his works have been appeared on Akashvaani and Doordarshan. He received the Choudhary Ranbir Singh Memorial Award in 1997.

Sanjay Khati

Sanjay Khati is a journalist and lives in New Delhi.

Sukani

Sukani, meaning helmsman in Gujarati, was the pen name of Professor Chandrashankar A Buch. Despite an academic background, with degrees in Sanskrit and English literature, his love for the sea led him to a job in shipping. He has written a number of sea stories which are based on real life experiences. The popular long short story, Dhudakiyo Bann, is based on the tidal wave phenomenon. He died in 1958 at the age of 62.

Susan Visvanathan

Susan Viswanathan is an Indian sociologist, social anthropologist and a fiction writer. She is well known for her writings on religion and sociology.
